On the Road: Chelsea MA

The Gallery at Spencer Lofts is pleased to present for the month of November, the work of Rhode Island photographer Deb Hickey. She will be showing a series of paintings of photographic images transferred to wood, canvas and paper. Her mixed-media paintings of architectural and landscape photographs transform conventional settings into personal explorations of space, time and color. This particular show will showcase our lovely city of Chelsea!

About Deb Hickey

Deb Hickey received a BFA in Photography from the Art Institute of Boston. She concentrated on a documentary shooting style, which led her to explore family life and children in greater depth. After graduation, Deb started Kids at Home, a children’s portraiture business which she continues to run today. She photographs in homes, playgrounds, beaches-almost anywhere kids are playing; and then creates small books to tell stories of their day.

Besides photographing children, Deb also enjoys traveling to unfamiliar destinations and exploring new environments by photographing the architecture and landscape. After trips to Italy, Ireland and Las Vegas, Ms. Hickey began a series of landscape assemblages in which she combined many photographs into one larger image to show the vastness of her views.

In her recent show Going Somewhere, she successfully transferred her assemblages of architecture and landscape on to wood and then painted and carved the wood to create personalized views of ordinary places. Her work transforms conventional buildings into personal explorations of space, time and color.

Deb Hickey is currently participating in a certificate program in graphic design at Rhode Island School of Design. She enjoys designing promo pieces for artists and small businesses as well as business cards and party invitations.
